Sycamore & College Hills

Sycamore Church of Christ took 42 on their team to Colonet. While they were there, they conducted 12 good Bible studies, which resulted into 5 baptisms! To God be the glory for our new brothers and sisters in Christ! There were 172 patients who were seen at the medical clinic. The two dentists saw 115 patients, doing 122 extractions and 61 fillings. They made 15 benevolent visits giving out clothes, toiletry items, shoes, and food. They visited Camp Baja and made them 10 bunk beds, painted one of the dorms, and cleaned their windows. They also made 10 bunk beds for Colonet families.  Around 125 each night of VBS. The theme this year was The Kingdom of God. They had close to 250 on Wednesday for the meal and soccer game. In the great rivalry soccer game Mexico once again took down USA with a score of 10-5. They had a corn hole tournament and gave trophies to the champions and runner-ups. At the beginning of their trip, they visited the City of Children, giving them pastries and playing with the children. On the way home they visited the Francos at El Zorrillo, and they fixed fine brunch for them, and they enjoyed a devotional time there. For the week at Colonet they worked with the minister and his wife, Antonio and Dulce Dueñas and the youth minister and his wife, Miguel and Nancy Ventura. We appreciate all the work they are doing at Colonet. Words cannot describe the wonderful experience! May the Lord continue to grow His kingdom in Baja!

The 2024 College Hills mission trip to work with our sister congregation in North San Quintín was no different. This was their first mission trip that included a medical clinic since 2019. With 38 people from the US, along with all the North San Quintín congregation, and the wonderful mobile clinic staff from Baja Missions, they served 397 individual patients from Sunday to Wednesday. During the day, they also painted buildings, ran electricity, dug holes, mounted security lighting, built fences, and so much more. They visited, hugged, kissed, and comforted the hurting and grieving. They even learned a little LSM (the ASL equivalent in Mexico).Nightly, they hosted a VBS, where they learned about children in the Bible. Meanwhile, Kevin Owen, Gary Roeder, and the adults explored Genesis 18, where God promised blessings to His people and expected them to train their children.

This was more than just a textual study because they lived it out down there. They had multiple spouses, and several families in the group, with both parents and children. But what made this more special was that they had two sets of 3 generations serving together. Father, child, and teenage grandson were working hand-in-hand, demonstrating lifelong commitments to raising Godly families to be blessings to others.

As they wrapped up the week, they hugged new and old friends. they sang, smiled, laughed, and cried, all within a few minutes. Each time they meet, their hearts grow. And each time they leave, they leave behind a piece of their hearts. Yes, they travelled to San Quintín expecting to be a blessing to Jorge and Violeta, and the whole congregation. Truth be told, though, they are as much of a blessing to us as we think we are to them. “Blessed to Be a Blessing” is not just a sermon title, it’s a choice we get to make, a lifestyle, and a commitment.

May God be glorified!
